With the holidays just around the corner, and the nostalgia of Christmas parties, we have come up with four virtual event ideas that you can host this holiday season. Whether you need an idea for your virtual team, or just your friends and family — we guarantee these four events will be a hit for everyone!
Game Nights
Over Facetime, Zoom, or Google Meet, you can meet up with friends or colleagues and enjoy a fun game night. Similar to in-person game nights, we suggest inviting people to eat, drink, and be merry throughout the event!
Some of our favourite games to play during these events are:
Card games
Charades
Truth or drink (must be legal drinking age to indulge)
Guess that tune
There are tons of online resources to help run these games, as well as many others!
Virtual Viewing
If your group loves movies as much as we do, then they will for sure enjoy a virtual viewing party. With Christmas coming soon, you can try a holiday movie, or resort to a classic comedy. If you aren’t sure what film to pick, you can send out invitations with your top three choices and have everyone vote for their favourite.
Great holiday-themed movies to watch are:
The Grinch
Love Actually
Christmas with the Kranks
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
Cooking Class
If you have a group that’s willing to cook, you can host a virtual cooking class. This is also a great opportunity for people to pick up a new recipe just in time for family dinners. You don’t need to be a professional cook to host a virtual cooking class, and half the fun is just being able to say you completed a dish or recipe. However, if your budget allows, you can invite a professional to teach everyone a more advanced recipe or method.
Some classic holiday recipes you can try:
Gingerbread cookies
Turkey accompaniments (i.e. gravy, cranberry sauce)
Eggnog
Vegan options (i.e. sweet potatoes baked with pecans and made with coconut cream; sugar cookies made with flax eggs and dairy-free butter)
Murder Mysteries and Escape Rooms
Escape rooms grew exceedingly popular among all ages prior to COVID-19, and there’s no doubt that everyone loves to solve a good mystery. This is a great option for colleagues wanting to work on team-building skills or just for a puzzling night in with your closest friends.
