Why You NEED to Learn How to Surf in Hawaii

It is no surprise that Hawaii is one of the top vacation destinations in the US. The luscious beaches, tropical greenery, and perfect weather all play a role in why the islands have become a staple travel spot for vacation lovers globally - not to mention the stunning Pacific Ocean neighbouring the state. We love Hawaii, and we know you will too. That being said, here’s a little list of what we think are the very best activities to do while visiting the Aloha state.

Surfing

Whether you’re a complete beginner or a self-proclaimed professional, surfing is the ideal activity to really put you into the true Hawaiian spirit. There is no better place to learn than on one of the beautiful islands, but Waikiki Beach, located on Oahu Island, has our heart. Surfing lessons are taught by experienced surfers, and private, semi-private, and group lessons are available. No matter your skill level, these instructors will help you catch your first wave within as little as one hour, making for an enjoyable and extremely memorable experience.

Waikiki Beach is known for its breathtaking views, so why not get a scenic tour while also getting a little workout in? Learning to surf in Hawaii will truly beat learning anywhere else. Surfing has become embedded in Hawaiian culture and has become a huge industry in itself. Countless devoted surf instructors with years of experience, combined with calm waters and deep-rooted culture will leave you wanting more. Not only will you be able to go home and tell everyone you surfed the Pacific Ocean, but you will discover an entirely new perspective on nature that is calming and extremely eye-opening - undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Culture

Hawaiian culture is one of the most influential and heavily practiced throughout the US, and even being a tourist, we encourage you to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Aloha spirit! With a strong emphasis on peace, love, and kindness, there is no better way to feel like a true Hawaiian than exploring their history. We know history may sound boring, but trust us, this is no high school social studies class. Expressed through art, music, clothing, food, hula dancing, and storytelling, Hawaiian heritage welcomes all and is one of the most fulfilling things you can do! Be sure to stop by the Polynesian Cultural Center on the north shore of Oahu during your next visit to enjoy all that the beautiful culture has to offer!

Hiking

The views throughout Hawaii are truly unlike any other, so why not explore the state on another level through all the incredible hikes? If you’re looking for an all-encompassing hike, Haleakala National Park, located in Maui, is the perfect place. With 48 km of trails, Haleakala has tons of hiking opportunities, regardless of your skill level (meaning kid-friendly!). With trails lasting 10 minutes to two days and varying elevations, there really is something for everyone - not to mention the spectacular views you won’t see anywhere else.

Need we say more? Hawaii speaks for itself. Be sure to check out these activities during your next Hawaii adventure - we promise you won’t be disappointed.
