VIRTUAL-ASSISTANT

How Do I Know If I Need a VA?

Outsourcing your work to someone else or another company can be intimidating. Trusting that someone else can do work for you that is up to your standards is a tough hurdle to get over. However, as a business owner, you’re likely not a stranger to burnout, stress and being overworked and overwhelmed. We’re here to talk you through when to know if you need a virtual assistant (VA) for your business.

One of the first signs that you might need a VA for your business is if you’re feeling exasperated. Like no matter how many hours and how many days a week you work, you can’t keep up with your task list and you’re beginning to drown in your own work. This feeling tends to lead to anxiety, asking yourself what happens if I can’t do this anymore? What if I can’t keep up and I lose everything? It leads to stress, about meeting deadlines, retaining clients and gaining new ones, and about the future of your business. And it eventually leads to depression, because you can’t see a way out. You see yourself as being solely responsible for all the work, otherwise, it might not be up to par with what your customers expect and therefore you’d lose the business. Trying to put out all these little fires, and not being able to upkeep standards or grow the business is detrimental to your company in the long run. It’s helpful to have someone or a group of people, to take care of the little things that are easily overlooked or that take up a large amount of your time. This gives you more time and energy to focus on aspects of your business that have been falling short, or creating new ways to grow your business.

Being a business owner comes with a lot of responsibilities, but you aren’t responsible for everything. You have to understand that in order for any organization to be successful, it requires teamwork and dedication. You can only accomplish this if you are well-rested, mentally okay and motivated. Therefore you need someone, whether you’re at the beginning stage, the rise of your business, or the closing of a business– to help you with tasks that you aren’t capable of.

Things like filing your taxes, organizing your email inbox, scheduling your social media posts– all of these are tasks that a VA can do for you to make your life a lot easier. If you’re worried about quality of work, you can take your time to interview people who specialize in certain areas of business that you are requiring help in. Even though it’s exhausting and stressful scheduling time out of your busy life to interview candidates and put your trust in someone else, it can be such a benefit for your business and for your own personal well-being.

Lastly, if you find yourself being overwhelmed with small, tedious (but still necessary) tasks, then you might want to consider hiring a virtual assistant. Tasks like managing your email inbox, managing your social media accounts, managing smaller-scale projects, and helping with your business in terms of administrative or organizational aspects. Since VAs are the ones responsible for their own training or education, then you can avoid any additional costs related to training a VA, beyond general instructions, and save yourself some money compared to what it would cost to hire a new employee, train them, and pay them full or part-time wages for a job or task that’s able to be done remotely or via contract work. If you aren’t sure if the work or projects you’re considering outsourcing are something that a VA would be capable of or if it would be worth your time and money to hire a permanent employee, you can reach out to a VA or schedule a consultation and see if the project is within their scope before signing any contracts or making any commitments
